I don’t think they stand for anything, I think they just capitalize them unnecessarily.

There was a rumor that it stood for Knights In Satan’s Shadow, but it turned out to not be true….

I have heard it means Knights In Satan’s Service but not for sure

Knights In Service to Satan as least thats what I heard. The drummer from that group had a home behind my dad’s house. I don’t remember his name but I would see him in the yard without makeup.

Doesn’t stand for anything. Paul Stanley came up with the name and Ace Frehley designed their logo.

  • Mr. Wizard:

Being a huge KISS fan (along with my best friend Chris McNeese), I’ve read and watched interviews done with KISS co-founder Gene Simmons, who explains “KISS” has been alleged by religious zealots being an acronym for “Knights In Satan’s Service”, which Simmons DENIES is even true.

Simmons goes on to say that the band began in the early ’70′s and he and Paul Stanley wrote down a huge list of single cool names for the band…..and KISS stood out.
